We are so proud to be coached by the wonderful Jennifer and Stanley McCalla!
Jennifer and her husband and partner, Stanley McCalla, held the US Amateur Standard, Latin, and 10-Dance titles, the last couple to have been so distinguished, and represented the US at four world championships. As professionals, they were Ohio Star Ball Rising Star Smooth Champions and Fred Astaire National Smooth Champions. They currently own and operate a studio in New York. Both act as judges at many collegiate ballroom competitions.
Wendy has been dancing since the age of 7, but fell in love with ballroom her freshman year at NYU and never looked back. After joining the ballroom team and ballroom club, over the years she has served as team treasurer, alumni mentor, and now club coach. Wendy’s current dance endeavors include running Borough Ball, a monthly ballroom social in NYC created for the collegiate and post-collegiate ballroom community, and traveling to West Coast Swing events across the US and Europe. Although she no longer competes in ballroom and prefers social dancing instead, in her free time you might catch her at collegiate competitions nearby, TBAing in Open finals of all four styles (often with Yimeng - she’s just along for the ride). Her favorite ballroom styles are American Smooth and International Latin.
Will first discovered ballroom as a freshman at CMU. Despite having no prior dance experience, he fell in love with it and (much to the chagrin of his parents) spent way more time practicing than studying. He served as his team's captain in his senior year, and after graduating, went on to win major competitions throughout the country and become national amateur vice-champion in American Smooth. Will recently turned professional with his partner Crystal and left his career in software engineering behind to compete and teach ballroom full-time. His favorite styles are American Smooth and International Standard, and he loves working with adult dancers to help them achieve their dreams.
Yimeng has been a member of the collegiate ballroom dance community for over a decade, wearing many hats: competitor, team captain, competition organizer, mentor and coach. He earned the nickname "TBA Man" for his many successes dancing lead/follow at competitions (often with multiple partners). More recently, he has become known as the "Ballroom Avatar" after achieving the extremely rare feat of making the Championship final in all four styles at major collegiate competitions. Having started ballroom at age 17 with two left feet and zero prior dance or athletic experience, Yimeng firmly believes that anyone can become a dancer.
